Adding Documents
Every agreement needs at least one document, the file your recipients will review and sign. You upload documents during the agreement preparation step, and Propper presents them as a single continuous signing experience for your recipients.
Supported File Formats
| Format | Extensions |
|---|---|
.pdf | |
| Word | .docx, .doc |
| Excel | .xlsx, .xls |
| PowerPoint | .pptx, .ppt |
| LibreOffice | .odt, .ods, .odp |
| Rich Text | .rtf |
| HTML | .html |
The maximum file size is 35 MB per document. Non-PDF files are automatically converted to PDF before recipients see them.
PDF is the most reliable format. If an Office file doesn't convert cleanly, export it to PDF from Word, Excel, or PowerPoint before uploading.
Uploading a Document
- Open your agreement in the prepare view.
- Drag a file onto the upload area, or click Upload Document and select your file.
- Wait a moment for processing to complete.
- Check the preview to make sure it looks right.
Adding Multiple Documents
You can attach more than one document to a single agreement, useful when an agreement bundles multiple files, like a contract alongside an exhibit or a benefits summary.
Recipients move through all documents in a single signing session, in the order you set.
To add more documents:
- Upload the first document.
- Click Add Another Document and upload additional files.
- Drag documents to reorder them, the order you set here is the order recipients see.
Place tags after you finalize the document order. Reordering documents after placing tags can shift tag positions, and you'll need to verify placements again.
Controlling Who Sees Which Document
By default, all recipients can view all documents in the agreement.
If your agreement contains documents with sensitive information that shouldn't be shared with every recipient, enable Enforce Recipient Visibility in Settings. This restricts each recipient to only the documents that contain fields assigned to them.
Before You Upload: Tips for Clean Documents
- Remove password protection, Password-protected PDFs will fail to upload. Remove the password in your PDF application first.
- Use clean, readable files, Small or highly compressed text can be difficult for recipients to read. If you're uploading a scanned document, make sure the scan is clear.
- Avoid form-fillable PDFs, Existing interactive form fields can conflict with Propper's tags. Flatten the PDF before uploading if you run into issues.
Troubleshooting
"File too large", Compress the PDF or split it into smaller files.
"Invalid format" or upload fails, Check that the file isn't corrupted or password-protected. Try re-saving or re-exporting from the source application.
Document preview looks wrong after upload, This can happen when Office files use fonts or features that don't convert cleanly. Export to PDF first and re-upload.
Pages appear out of order, If you're uploading multiple documents, check the document order in the prepare view. Note that page order within an individual file can't be changed in Propper, reorder pages in your source application before uploading.
