Tag Placement

The template editor gives you several ways to position tags on your document accurately. This page covers placement methods, alignment tools, sizing defaults, and common layout patterns.

Placement methods

Drag and drop

  1. Select a tag type from the left panel.
  2. Drag it onto the document.
  3. Drop it in position.
  4. Resize if needed by dragging the corners or edges of the tag.

Click to place

Click-to-place is faster when you need to add multiple tags of the same type in sequence:

  1. Click the tag type in the left panel (do not drag).
  2. Click on the document where you want the tag placed.
  3. Click again to place another tag of the same type.
  4. Press Esc to exit placement mode.

Selecting and moving tags

Click a tag to select it. With a tag selected, drag it to reposition it on the document.

Multi-select

To work with multiple tags at once:

  • Shift + Click — add individual tags to the selection.
  • Click and drag on empty space — draw a selection box (lasso) around multiple tags.

With multiple tags selected you can:

  • Drag any selected tag to move all of them together (relative positions are maintained).
  • Delete all selected tags at once.
  • Copy and paste the group (relative positions are maintained on paste).

Alignment guides

When you drag a tag near another tag or the page edge, smart alignment guides appear. These lines indicate when edges or centers align between elements, helping you create consistent layouts without manual measurement.

Sizing reference

Default tag sizes are optimized for readability and usability. Resize by dragging tag handles after placement.

PDF points: 1 pt = 1/72 inch. A US Letter page is 612 × 792 pts.

For touch-friendly signing on mobile devices, keep interactive tags at a minimum of 44 × 44 pts and leave at least 8 pts of spacing between adjacent tags.

Common layout patterns

Signature block

A standard signature block groups the signature with the signing date and an optional printed name line:

Signature tag (150 × 40 pts)
Date Signed tag (120 × 24 pts, auto-fills)
Text "Printed Name" (200 × 24 pts, optional)

Leave 8–10 pts of vertical spacing between each element.

Form section

For data entry sections with labels and fields in a grid layout:

[Label, ~150 pts wide] [Field, ~200 pts wide]
[Label, ~150 pts wide] [Field, ~200 pts wide]

Leave 16 pts of vertical spacing between rows.

Troubleshooting

Cannot drop a tag — Make sure you are dropping on the document canvas, not in the margins or outside the page boundary.

Tag appears misaligned after zoom — Zoom back to 100% and verify the position. The actual position on the PDF is at 100% zoom.

Cannot select a tag — Press Esc to exit click-to-place mode, then click the tag.

Copy and paste not working — Click on the document canvas first to ensure it has focus, then try the copy shortcut again.
